Well. I would say “good job apple” based on when they actually fix it instead of putting a band aid on it Disabling Group FaceTime ASAP was the right move for privacy and avoiding the PR catastrophe that is going on over in Twitter rn.

The worst part is waiting an entire OS update to fix an app issue. Looks like Apple is still living 2003-like.
-
Well, I don't think this is the case. FaceTime is still technically distributed via the App Store, so Apple could push an update for *just* FaceTime. I think things that are advertised as "iOS 12 features" like group FT are only that way b/c the update only works with iOS 12+
-
It used to be packaged with iOS updates, yes, but I don't think this is the case anymore.
-
Even so, Apple has many critical-update methods for macOS for stuff like that High Sierra root bug — it forces every connected Mac to apply the update IMMEDIATELY while the machine's on. They likely have similar systems in place for iOS.
-
Then again, I'm not an Apple employee so it could be possible that everything I just said is entirely untrue! But I doubt Apple would not have a backup system like this, or a way to push an update to a single system app.
-
That is untrue, like it just a way to redownload the apps. There is no way Apple is able to update system apps via the App Store.
-
Do you have a source for this?
-
FaceTime is part of iOS not the AppStore. When you delete FaceTime it is still on your phone

Still working! No sure why they said its down lolpic.twitter.com/eIu1zpwaXN

Only Group FaceTime is disabled. That’s where the bug is.
-
Now its no working
-
Thanks for confirming.
-
Turned it off server side. This is dodgy as hell. They should make a feature where only contacts can FaceTime you. At least that limits bad things happening
-
Your online security. One example is someone listening in on business sensitive matters. Either way it’s a risk no matter the example and that’s why Apple closed it down server side. Don’t think of privacy as “I’ve got nothing to hide” because that’s how they become eroded.
-
In this case the abuser would have to have little to hide either because the call was fully logged on the victim phone.
